Longer content correlates with better rankings in aggregate studies because comprehensive coverage tends to require more words, not because length itself helps. Padding a thin page to 3,000 words adds nothing.
Analyse the top five ranking pages for your target query. Note what subtopics they cover collectively. Your page should cover that ground plus something they miss. The resulting length is whatever that takes.
Definitional queries, simple how-to questions, and local service pages frequently rank best with concise, direct content. Forcing length onto these makes them worse and harder to extract for snippets.
